    Statistical analysis is meant to serve scientific, business and management purposes, and statistical inference is a process to reach conclusions about unknown population features based on evidence and proper reasoning. This talk re-emphasizes the usefulness of the empirical distribution and illustrates its use when modeling extreme values.

主讲人简介：

    陈歌迈教授现任加拿大卡尔加里大学数学与统计系统计学教授。他早年在西蒙弗雷泽大学获得统计学博士学位后，先后在滑铁卢大学、里贾纳大学和曼尼托巴大学工作，最终加入卡尔加里大学。其研究领域涵盖金融与经济模型构建与预测、环境变化的非线性时间序列建模以及质量控制等方向。
