李嵘于1998年本科毕业于内蒙古大学理工学院数学系，并于同年师从孙炯教授攻读基础数学专业硕士研究生，2001年毕业之后工作于内蒙古大学理工学院自动化系。2005年考上北京大学力学系博士研究生，师从黄琳院士和段志生教授，方向为复杂系统研究。2006.06-2006.09到香港城市大学陈关荣教授处进行学术访问。于2009年6月获博士学位。2009年9月开始任教于本校，从事教学及科研工作。2018.1-2019.1访学美国华盛顿州立大学。
